The Doctrine of God–Communicable Attributes part 4

Posted: September 23, 2008 in Uncategorized

Another attribute of God that is partially shared by us is wisdom and truth.  Dr. Grudem states, “God’s wisdom means that God always chooses the best goals and the best means to those goals.”  Scripture clearly affirms God’s wisdom (Rom. 16:27; Job 9:4; 12:13, etc.).  By grace, God grants us this wisdom (James 1:5).

God’s truthfulness means “that he is the true God, and that all his knowledge and words are both true and the final standard of truth” (Jer. 10:10-11; John 17:3; Job 37:16; Deut. 32:4; Num. 23:19 and Titus 1:2).  We are to imitate this by striving for knowledge and the honest communication of such knowledge (Eph. 4:25; Col. 3:9-10).

Unfortunately, this stands in stark contrast to many Bible believing Christians.  We do not pray for wisdom (or for much of anything other than for crap we want) and we do not seek knowledge but simply try to get by until we can plant our poopers on the couch again and switch on the idiot box.  God wants us to seek His wisdom through prayer, fasting, simple living, worship, Bible study, etc. as well as general knowledge about His great creation in order to accurately communicate it to others as we fulfill the Great Commission.

How are you doing with that this week?
