The Resurrection and Ascension Part 2

Posted: December 10, 2008 in Uncategorized

Both the Father and the Son participated in the resurrection (see Acts 2:24; Rom. 6:4; 1 Cor. 6:14; Gal. 1:1; Eph. 1:20 as well as John 10:17-18),

Yeah, well, so what?

What is the significance of the resurrection anyway?  As Wayne Grudem points out in the his massive Systematic Theology, there are a couple of points for Christians to note:

(1) “Christ’s resurrection insures our regeneration.”  See 1 Peter 1:3; Eph. 2:5-6; Col. 3:1

(2) “Christ’s resurrection insures our justification.” See Rom. 4:25. To quote Dr. Grudem, “When Christ was raised from the dead, it was God’s declaration of approval of Christ’s work of redemption. ” Awesome.

(3) “Christ’s resurrection insures that we will receive perfect resurrection.”  See last couple of posts.

Finally, there are important ethical considerations which flow from the resurrection.  The power of the resurrection, the love behind it all and the promise that it insures should motivate all followers of Jesus to be resolute (1 Cor. 15:58), focus on our awesome future (1 Cor. 15:17-19) and to fight sin (Rom. 6:11-13).

There you have it.

Tomorrow we will discuss the significance of Jesus’ ascension into heave.
