2009 Emergent Conversation Day 2 – Workshop

Posted: September 11, 2009 in Uncategorized

Eight different workshops were offered. I attended John Franke’s. Professor Franke outlined the argument in his forthcoming book “Manifold Witness”, in which, he contends that plurality within the faith is what God intended. He points to the four gospels and even to the Trinity to argue that plurality is intrinsic to God’s self.

Franke was quick to note that plurality does not mean “anything goes” for there are still better and worse interpretations.

He encountered a lot of pushback from both conservatives and progressives on questions like, “who gets to decide what ‘doesn’t go'”.

An excellent question but I look forward to reading the book.
