Read Along with Pastor Matt…Simply Christian Part One: Introduction

Posted: December 9, 2009 in Uncategorized

Bishop N.T. Wright has written more than 30 books but the one he may be most rememebered by 50 years from now is “Simply Christian,” which is Wright’s attempt to “describe what Christianity is all about.

“Simply Christian” is broken into a three-fold structure.  First, Wright explores “four areas which in today’s world can be interepreted as “echoes of a voice”: the longing for justice, the quest for spirituality, the hunger for relationships, and the delight in beauty.”  Wright will gently argue that each of theses four dimensions of human existence point beyond themselves to a metanarrative that makes sense of life.

Second, Wright looks to the Christian metanarrative and what is says about God, specifically, how God is most fully revealed in the person of Jesus.

Third, Wright outlines what it looks like to follow Jesus as part of the church.

We will look at Part One (Echoes of a Voice) tomorrow.

Until then, grace and peace.
