The Story of Anvil, Our Story and the Book of Revelation

A few weeks ago, I watched the documentary Anvil: The Story of Anvil.  If you don’t know who Anvil is, don’t worry, you’re not alone.  They are a classic metal band who found some fame and influence in the early ’80’s but then dropped off the map.  But, to my surprise, they are still around!

The group’s leaders are in the  fifties and still seeking to make a big comeback against all odds.  They scrimp and save to get a demo recorded and then make the rounds of the last few big record companies in the slim hope of landing a recording contract.

They seem to have no quit in them and, in that way, they are inspiring.

But they are also really sad.  It is sad for a Christian to watch these guys spend all of their time and energy on a goal that, from an eternal perspective, is hardly worth the effort.  Yet, how many Christians focus all of their time and energy on goals that are also of little eternal perspective.

Our stories are often just as sad as Anvil’s.

The book of Revelation calls us to a life of radical obedience to King Jesus.  It pulls back the curtain to allow us to see reality as it is from the perspective of God’s throne and invites us to live within that story instead.

One day, when time as we know it is no more, and history is re-written as it truly is then only those of us loyal to King Jesus will have lived a story that truly echoes throughout eternity.
