Frequently Asked Questions About Revolution Part 12–Love Wins

Posted: June 25, 2010 in Uncategorized

If you live in south central Ohio then you may have seen simple black stickers that read, “love wins.” If you wonder what they mean or where they come from then this is your lucky day.

“Love Wins.” is an old phrase that at least goes back to the 1960’s but has recently been popularized by author and pastor Rob Bell and The Robbie Seay Band.  Mars Hill Bible Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan and a number of other ministries have mass-produced the stickers and Revolution Church buys roughly 250 of them every other month or so and hands them out for free.

Why? What does it mean?

Simply put, it means that at the end of time God will triumph over evil, death will die and love will win.

The Christian belief that, no matter how bad things appear now, God will fix His broken creation is a doctrine of the faith known as “eschatology.”  The doctrine is normally tacked on the end of the study of Christianity or virtually ignored by those within the faith (or worse, abused by television and radio preachers…but that’s another story).  Eschatology, however, is central to Revolution church.

We believe that the hope that God will fix this world is the power that drives us forward to worship God, grow closer to God and each other and to serve God in the streets of Portsmouth.

We believe that part of worship on Sundays is a preview of what is to come in the new earth (which, despite cartoon theology, will be a physical existence) in which we will be able to worship God in His visible presence.  We believe that growing closer to God and to each other is also a preview of the closeness we will have with God and our friends for eternity.  We also believe that serving God are actions that will echo through eternity.  The people Revolution helps feed, clothe and heal will hopefully sit with us at the great party that Jesus promises to throw for His people at the end of time.  The vision of sitting at a great banquet with the king of creation and looking across the table at men and women that we have had the privilege of introducing to Jesus is a hope that grants true meaning to our lives and power to face today and tomorrow.

We at Revolution see ourselves as soldiers building for a future kingdom and as bearers of light kicking the darkness until it bleeds daylight.

We believe that we can help alleviate suffering only by entering into it and we believe we can do so if we keep the hope for a future close at hand.

We believe that the darkness does not have the final say.  We believe, in the end, love wins!
