Free Seminary Update

Posted: December 15, 2010 in Uncategorized

Revolution Church’s Free Seminary kicks off on January 29, 2011 at the eye-popping time of 7:30 a.m.! We will meet at Revolution for coffee & donuts from 7:30 until 8 a.m. and then orientation will kick off at 8:00 and run about an hour.

We will cover some of the basics including a required discussion of biblical theology.

Classes will commence the next week.  Dave Dunham will be teaching a class on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. entitled, “The Gospel.”  The required textbook is Mark Driscoll’s Death by Love.

Dr. Frank Tallerico has yet to pick a time but he has mentioned Saturday mornings.  His class is entitled “Christian Spiritual Formation” and the required text is Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Donald Whitney.  Dr. Tallerico will also require you to begin journaling, so be prepared to pick a journal up as well.

I will be teaching Systematic Theology Part 1 (there are 4 parts to this track).  I will be teaching on Sunday afternoons at 3:00 p.m. at Revolution.  The required text for this class, and all 4-parts of the theology track over the minimum 2-years it takes to earn a certificate of completion, is Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem.

All students should also invest in an ESV Study Bible.  I think the ESV translation can be a bit stilted at times but the study notes and articles for the ESV Study Bible are currently unparalleled.

Anyone can sign up for classes but we really need to limit each class to no more than 12 participants (6-7 ideally), so first come, first served.  You can pick up applications at Revolution this Sunday or I will be happy to email one to you.  I can be reached at

Remember, education transmits data but training transforms and the latter is our goal.
