Before I Become A Universalist…

Posted: March 16, 2011 in Uncategorized

I am reminded by the whole Rob Bell controversy of something I heard a French scholar said when confronted with the New Perspective on Paul that claims to have recenty discovered what justification by faith really means.  The French scholar said something akin to,

“Before I leave Augustine and Athanasius and Luther and Calvin and Knox and Edwards and Whitfield and Wesley and Spurgeon and Warfield and Machen and C.S. Lewis and Carl Henry and Billy Graham and Francis Schaeffer and John Stott and on and on and on…I should be very hesitant.”

Before I become a universalist, I should carefully consider the centuries of wise and godly men who have prayerfully interpreted Scripture…shouldn’t I?
